Video / Listening: U2 “Walk On” Level: intermediate Age group: 15-18
1. Warm-up (5-10 minutes):
Ask students following questions:
a) Think of as many Irish artist as you can. Which is your favourite one? b) What do you think of singing about love? Do we need singing about love? c) Today we are going to watch and listen to the music clip “Walk On” by U2. Can you predict what the text is about? d) Do you think it is easy to write song lyrics?
2. Ask if someone knows anything about the band. If there is an access to the Internet, tell students to find some basic information about U2 in the Internet and ask one or a few students to present the result of search (5-10 minutes).
3. Use the video tape or visit u2.com (you can also search the YouTube.com) and run or download the video (“Walk On”). Play it twice and tell students to fill the gaps in prepared files with incomplete lyrics. Check the answers. (20 minutes)
4. After watching the video, ask if students recognised the TV programme which it was taken from. Ask, what is the name of the man presenting the group before performing the song. (5-10 minutes)
